The Dark Reader web browser extension is a tool that allows users to browse the web in a dark mode. It is open source, you can view the source code on GitHub. To setup this browser extension, head over to the Dark Reader website, select either Firefox or Chrome depending on your preferred web browser, and then follow. On top of automatically setting dark colors for websites, Dark Reader gives you the option to change font(s). You can even setup a hotkey for adding a website to any given list. With Dark Reader, you get two lists, one for the websites where you always want dark mode turned on and another for when you do not want dark mode turned on. So, in July 2014, I created a simple extension that could invert the colors of web pages as soon as you clicked an icon in the top-right corner. ![]() When you feel that Dark Reader’s auto generated dark theme are not good enough, you can tweak the filters for Brightness, Contrast, Sepia and Grayscale color values per webpage.
